1-26-11 What a crazy year its been so far. With all the rain and snow melt from the middle of the month the steelhead season is just getting back into full swing. If you are reading this you need to get up out of your chair and hit a local river/stream!! This past week of dry weather has allowed most not all rivers to come back into great fishing shape. The Clackamas from the mouth up to Rivermill Dam was fishing good as of last week. Drift fishing from the bank or side drifting from a boat is catching the majority of fish due to the higher flows still present. The Sandy is just starting to come around but will be at least another week to go from slow-poor to average-ok. Water clarity is still the issue with the recent flooding that took place. (See picture above from 1-17-11, was at same hight(s) as 96 floods)
The coastal streams should be game on time this weekend but look for heavy pressure there as well due to many being stuck in the house for too long!
Crabbing has been poor in most bays due to the high fresh water runoff but should be fair this weekend if the rain is light as predicted.
I'll be adding more soon, need to get out fishing myself and springer season is just around the corner. See front page for Feb special if you want to have a shot at a real early spring chinook salmon and some Sturgeon fishing also all in one trip!!
Tight Lines!!!
